Teacher Appreciation: Building Value Perception

Square Stack With Cardboard Supports

Teach Me Thy Ways, O Lord

Any way you stack it, teachers always come out tops! That’s a great message to deliver with a gift that truly measures up with eye-popping height. The design shown here is almost four feet tall, from bottom to the top point of the cello plume, creating better value perception with each rising inch of the gift design. Building visual value is important when quality components (which can cost more) are used in abundance. This design concept balances more expensive gifts with price-cutting labor savings. The stack can be hastily assembled in less than 15 minutes!

Step 1: Cut 8 - two inch x nine inch strips of heavy white cardboard, scoring each one vertically to make a neat center fold. Using double-stick “red tape” (heavy duty), attach the cardboard supports inside the four corners of the two largest nested boxes.

Step 2: Hook the stand of the framed message over the front side of the (biggest) base box. Pack the bases of the boxes with loosely crumpled packing paper. Pack additional components, filling empty spaces with layered fans of white tissue.  Place the lid on the cardboard supports.

Step 3: Pack the medium-sized nested box unit as shown with the corner cardboard supports, mug and popcorn). Note how the acrylic-boxed mug is positioned at an angle, with the corner extending over the top edge of the box.
Step 4: Pack the remaining nested box (the smallest one), following the methods outlined for the first and second box. Use a tall, sturdy box of cookies to support the box lid. Finish packing the smallest box using a packet of themed coffee and an apple-shaped wire candy container.

Step 5: To save time, stack the three packed boxes, shrinkwrapping them as one unit. Adhesives are not needed when the units are shrinkwrapped together. (Each of the three packed boxes can be shrinkwrapped individually, then cello wrapped as a stacked unit, if desired.   Use a narrow strip of decorative cellophane to wrap the unit on the sides for decorative effect, topping off the design with a triangular plume of multi-layered and gathered cello. Add a bow for the final finish!
